Data Feed standard update

Posted by: admin In: Issues for the PMA to consider

Haiko de Poel just emailed me with a link to a data feed standard he developed in 2005 and posted on A Best Web. It is really concise and certainly looks like it covers details important to affiliates.

Another related topic: how do we get merchants to include accurate and relevant data?

Rebecca, when you did your show on about Webmaster Radio forming the PMA you made a good point. Actually you made LOTS of great points and anyone interested in this assn should take a listen.

But the point I was going to bring up is the issue of the PMA setting some standards. Essentially you said you see the PMA setting standards - NOT TO POLICE or MICRO-MANAGE affiliates but to make their lives easier.

The analogy you used was the IAB setting standards for common banners sizes. They are a guide, a standard to follow so that advertisers and publishers can more easily work together. The IAB is not going to tell a merchant or affiliate they CAN’T use a 389X533 banner.

You bought up datafeeds during that conversation as the perfect example of how the PMA could help facilitate something that has been needed for a long time - “datafeed standards”.

So I’m glad you are bringing this issue up early in the game ,as it’s a concrete example of one small but important area the PMA could have a positive impact on. It’s great to see Haiko jumping in to offer a good resource from ABW.
